This gorgeous hand painted little story box is depicting Russian folk lore. I believe it is from Kholui (one of the four art centers of Russian lacquer miniature painting). It measures 7.25" x 5.75" x 1.5".
The story is depicting Alexander Pushkin’s “The Tale of Tsar Saltan”.
