Indian Enameled Lidded Brass Pot Peacock Handles Snake Pot Ginger Jar Urn

I obtained this amazing piece from the widow of a local surgeon. She said it had been a gift from another local Doctor, of Indian heritage, and he told her this piece was used to hold snakes in India. I cannot find any information from my research that this is legitimate report or any example of such items being used or labeled as "Snake pots"

Nevertheless it is a beautiful piece and would make a lovely accent to your home, air b&b or gift for a fan of Flanner O'Connor's works, as the peacock often makes appearances in her works.

There are two small chips in the enamel on one side, please see pictures.
