The book gives a brief history on the settlement of the area before delving into how Lee Sinclair came to purchase the original hotel, and how his daughter and her husband eventually sold the hotel to Ed Ballard. From there the hotel closed a few years before the Jesuits bought it as a seminary and eventually Northwood Institute purchased it from them. For years the property fell into litigation and it looked as though the hotel might collapse until some local benefactors saved it from destruction.
