This is a bolt of fabric for a summer kimono, featuring a black background with scattered pink, blue, and yellow autumn leaves, created using the paste-resist dyeing and hand-painted yuzen techniques. It was among the buried treasures (?), I suppose, of my mother, who passed away last year. I think she was saving it to make a kimono for her daughter.
In addition to this, a mountain of new bolts of fabric and fabric that had been washed and stretched, which she apparently intended to have re-sewn, have come to light!
This is one of them.
It would be lovely to go out in a cool kimono this coming summer.
There is some discoloration on the selvedges of the fabric, but I think it will be hidden in the seam allowance when sewn.
